SCAM CHECKLIST
Are you being scammed? If you aren't sure who is calling or sending that message, consider the following points to help keep you safe.
If you answer “Yes” to any of the following questions, STOP and contact a credit union representative at 419-529-5603 for further discussion. It may be a scam.
Use caution with any phone calls, text messages, or emails, even if they claim to be from the Credit Union, law enforcement, or a government agency. Never give personal or financial information, transfer or send money, or click on links without verification. Call the organization directly to confirm this type of communication. If you think something is not right, we are here to help.
- Have you been told to keep a transaction a secret or not to talk to us about it?
- Have you been asked to buy gift cards or to mail cash to an unfamiliar person?
- Have you been told you have won a prize, sweepstake, or lottery?
>Were you asked to pay for taxes or fees upfront to claim it?
- Have you received a check or money order?
>Were you asked to deposit it and send some of the money back?
>Were you sent a check for an amount larger than what it should be?
- Have you received a call or text claiming there is a serious issue, such as:
>Trouble with the government or legal system?
>A large, urgent bill to pay?
>A virus or hacking alert on your device?
- Have you been instructed to deposit cash into a Bitcoin machine or another ATM to an account you do not own?
- Have you recently met someone online and it developed into a relationship?
>Has this person asked for money due to a sudden medical problem, legal crisis, or business disaster?
- Have you made an online purchase, but your item never arrived?
- Were you contacted about an investment opportunity promising high investment returns without making an actual investment?
