Every year Advantage Credit Union offers area graduating seniors an opportunity to earn $1,000 to put towards their college expenses.
The applications need to be submitted to the credit union by 5 p.m. on Friday May 15, 2015.
This scholarship program was created to honor the memory of Marilyn Archer. Marilyn worked for the credit union as a volunteer for 20 years and as a staff member for 10 years. She fought a valiant four year fight against cancer and died at the age of 52. Marilyn gave to the credit union in many ways that made the road easier for those that followed without anticipation of personal profit or recognition. It is the hope of the family and the credit union that this scholarship will inspire future leaders with the volunteer spirit.
The words of Helen Keller express the idea. "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker."
Marilyn was an honest worker blessed with the gift of common sense and a volunteer spirit.
Advantage Credit Union will award a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating High School Senior. The award is based on student's scholastic and extracurricular activities.
